School Started- Finally!

OK, so my favorite day of the year happened...school started! Yea! But do you want to know my second favorite day of the year? The last day of school- LOL

We have been anticipating this day for a long time. The girls school had some missteps, but we are determined to see it through and make the best of things. Thankfully, many of the women who I met in a Wednesday night bible study are also sending their children to the school. And thankfully, Eden and Grace have some of the girls in their classrooms.

Alex also was elected into the PALS board, which is the schools version of PTA. Of the 8 offices for the PALS board, I think more than half of them are Christians- so that is very encouraging to all of us.

Anyway, Grace started 2nd grade and Eden is in 4th grade. Because of the school's missteps, the students are only going half day. Let me explain. It is my opinion that the administrators overshot their goals for the second year of the school. This year, they decided to add another 500 elementary students and a Jr. High school. Well, lofty right? OK, but the buildings should have been built at the beginning of this year, rather than trying to get them in over the summer. So, needlesstosay, the buildings are not ready. So, administrators decided to add portables to the existing campus and house all the students there, on three different campus sites (one for early elementary, one for secondary, and one for Jr. High). For some unknown reason, they decided to transport the portables from Utah (ok, the reason is not unknown to me...) and, wouldn't you know it? The portable didn't make it. So, rather than delay school starting several more weeks (Thank you!) they decided to split the day in half. Half the students go in the morning from 8-11, the other half from 11:40-2:40. Apparently, AZ requires 3 hours of core curriculum of classes, the rest of the time spent in school? Fluff. So, half here we are, half the students attending in the AM, half in the PM and the Jr. Highers completely off campus.

The girls were assigned the PM schedule. So, from 6:30-10:40, we wait. 10:40-11:30 lunch and get ready for school; 11:40-2:40 school. This is the second day. And the projected school to be ready? Anytime between now and 8 weeks! Like, I said, I am trying to make the best of it.

But, it is nice having them do something during the day. Now I am looking at extra curriculur activities to fill in their time: dance, piano, and Awana. So, we will see.....
